Services for Case Management Companies

Rose Therapy Centre is a specialist speech and language service working with adults in West Yorkshire who have communication and swallowing difficulties due to neurological illness or those with voice disorders.

We work with case management companies to provide speech and language services to their clients.

We offer speech and language therapy assessment, case management treatment and training. We are based in West Yorkshire, but we cover the whole of Yorkshire and other parts of the country. Our services can be tailored to suit your needs and the needs of your clients.

Where required, our speech and language therapists can provide prompt assessment of clients including a plan for short and long term treatment and care. Assessment reports will provide detailed diagnosis of a client’s condition and the next steps required including speech and language therapy.

Therapy is guided by latest research and evidence. Often treatment will be based around vocational rehabilitation where clients wish to return to work, however in all cases our speech and language therapists will consider all lifestyle factors for the patient and create goals based on their overall well-being.

We offer specialist services to adults with communication and swallowing problems (dysphagia), which may have been caused by:

  • Brain injury
  • Brain tumour
  • Dementia
  • Motor neurone disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinsons
  • Stroke
  • Voice abuse, misuse or pathology

Our services can be broken up in to the following three areas:

  • Assessment
  • Therapy
  • Training

Assessment

Speech and Language Assessments

At Rose Therapy Centre we use both formal and informal assessments to gain a full picture of the nature of a client’s speech and language disorder. This allows us to gain a true baseline, set goals and plan therapy as well as providing a means of outcome measurement.  We have listed some of the formal assessments that we use most frequently, however, we do have access to other more specific assessments should they be required.

Formal assessments include:

  • Comprehensive Aphasia Test
  • Psycholinguistic Analysis of Language Processing in Aphasia
  • Frenchay Dysarthria Assessment
  • Apraxia Battery for Adults

As well as assessing the ‘impairment’, our speech therapists put the client at the centre of everything we do, and also include:

  • Client and carer perceptions
  • Rating scales
  • Assess mood including using Visual Analogue of Self-Esteem Scale

Voice Assessment

Following formal diagnosis of vocal fold pathology, abuse, misuse or non-organic phonatory disorder, our speech therapists then use formal and informal assessment to gain a full understanding of a client’s phonation and design an individual therapy plan;

  • Voice history
  • Perceptual Voice Analysis

Swallowing/dysphagia assessment

When a client has an identified oro-pharyngeal dysphagia our speech therapists are able to offer comprehensive assessment to provide your client with a full diagnosis and appropriate management advice

  • Swallow history
  • Cranial nerve examination
  • Clinical swallowing/dysphagia assessment

At Rose Therapy Centre we are experienced in managing complex dysphagia including intubated patients.

Therapy

At Rose Therapy Centre every intervention is guided by the latest research and evidence.

Our speech therapists apply the WHO model of disability and provide a combination of impairment based therapy and a social model approach.

Therapy will be carried out on a one to one basis with clients and supplemented with home practice.

Therapy intervention for speech, language, voice and swallowing disorders is guided by;

  • Nature of the underlying condition/pathology
  • Nature and severity of the disorder
  • Client goals and motivation

Following a communication assessment, a therapy plan will be agreed with the client and specific exercises prescribed to address the difficulty. Sometimes therapy will be supplemented by software, or technology might be recommended to augment your client’s communicative capability (AAC).

Following a comprehensive swallowing assessment, we might advise specific therapy exercises to rehabilitate your client’s swallow. This may be to address deficits at the oral preparatory, oral or pharyngeal stage of the swallow.

Throughout therapy and at the end of any ‘block’, outcome measures will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of any intervention. This will ensure that a therapy approach is appropriate and any techniques can be modified as required.

Training

Rose Therapy Centre offers various training packages:

  • Client specific training

Not only do we offer direct therapy to clients, we recognise the importance of training care-givers, care home staff or employers etc in meeting the client's communicative or swallowing needs.

  • Case managers / assessors

We recognise that communication impairments can make client participation in assessments challenging, and, in more severe presentations, communication difficulties can mask a client’s competence to make decisions regarding their needs. We can offer your staff training to understand the nature of communication difficulties and give them the skills to involve those presenting with communication difficulties in the assessment process.
