About Us - Meet Our Therapists

Rose Speech Therapy’s practitioners are registered with The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and The Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP.)

Our therapists have extensive experience working within the NHS and privately and work in partnership with a small, dedicated team of experienced practitioners.

Karen Scrivener-Fearn - Qualified Speech and Language Therapist

Karen Fearn

Karen is an experienced and highly skilled Speech and Language Therapist with a special interest in neurological rehabilitation and voice therapy.

Karen has worked in the sector for more than 19 years in the management of acquired communication and swallowing disorders

This includes detailed assessment, patient-centred therapy planning and delivery of a wide range of therapeutic approaches.

Karen leads a videofluoroscopy clinic (x-ray guided swallowing assessment) that follows the MBS-imp protocol. This includes recommendations for therapeutic approaches.

Karen is trained to deliver the following dysphagia therapies: McNeill Dysphagia Therapy Programme, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, sEMG biofeedback and respiratory muscle strength training.

In addition to her independent practice, Karen continues to work in the NHS as a clinical lead for inpatient stroke care.

Karen works as a treating therapist on Medico-legal cases.

Gill Buckingham - Qualified Speech and Language Therapist

Gillian Buckingham

Gillian is a highly-specialist speech and language therapist with more than 17 years’ experience of rehabilitating adults suffering from acquired neurological disorders and life-limiting illness.

She has worked in the NHS developing her specialism working with adults with acquired neurological disorders, including acute wards, stroke rehabilitation and long-term community rehabilitation.

Gillian regularly works alongside case managers for clients undergoing medico-legal proceedings and has acted as an expert witness in personal injury claims.

Gillian has specialist qualifications in working with adults with complex swallowing and communication difficulties. This includes:

  • Completing videofluoroscopy examinations (x-ray swallows) to diagnose swallowing disorders following the MBS-IMP protocol.
  • Treatment of dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) Gillian is trained to offer neuromuscular electrical stimulation (AMPCARE), sEMG biofeedback, expiratory muscle strength training and McNeill dysphagia therapy programme.
  • Gillian is certified to offer LSVT voice treatment for adults with Parkinson’s disease

Our Associates

Each of our speech therapy associates has more than five years’ experience of working with adults with acquired neurological conditions.

We always endeavour to pair our patients carefully with the therapist who can best meet their needs.

Georgina qualified as a speech and language therapist in 2014. Alongside her independent work, Georgina works in the NHS in both acute and rehabilitation settings with a special interest in aphasia.

Hannah has been an associate at Rose Speech Therapy since 2017 and works at the Hospice providing training and support. She also specialises in neuro-rehabilitation with expertise in swallow rehabilitation.

Lucy has over 20 years’ experience working in neurological rehabilitation. She has previously worked for Leeds Teaching Hospital Trusts, where she was responsible for the regional Motor Neurone Disease clinic. Lucy works as a treating therapist in active and settled medico-legal cases.

Lindsay is our team administrator. She joined Rose Speech Therapy in 2021. She has a wealth of admin experience across both the health and financial sectors.
